Sustainable development represents the harmonious relationship between ecology and economy, devoted to the preservation of natural resources and the wealth of our planet for future generations. It can be said that sustainable development is a general direction, striving to create a better world, balancing social, economic and environmental factors.
Just over a decade ago, the World Commission on Environment and Development, also known as the Brundtland Commission, published a report entitled "Our Common Future”, which indicates to the risks for people and our planet, deriving from such politics of economic growth which doesn’t take into account the possibility of regeneration of the planet Earth.
Public Panel Discussion: The potentials of agribusiness and rural economy

Central European Forum for Development (CEDEF) and LC Sivac, with the cooperation of the president of Kula Municipality Assembly, have organized on 12th May 2010 in Kula the panel discussion entitled: “The potentials of agribusiness and rural economy”. The meeting was attended by renowned experts from the region, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and financial institutions. The interactive character of the event enabled a lively and engaged discussion among all 80 and more participants. It included owners of large farms, interested in possibilities of mergers and financing in agriculture, as well as businessmen from the region.

First forum on corporate communications

In June 2009 the ’First forum on corporate communications’ was held in Nis, Serbia, in organization of CEDEF. The main topic of the forum was communication as regional development and strategic cooperation tool. During the panel discussion, the participants agreed that only joint commitment by economy representatives and local governments as well as a professional approach in the field of communications can successfully promote economy development in Nis district. This would provide the necessary investment contributions to regional development, concluded the participants.

Economic Forum Backa 2009

Surpassing the success of all regional events in Backa in the past few decades, First Economic Forum Backa 2009, held on 27th November in Kula, brought together 150 entrepreneurs, state officials, representatives of embassies, foreign investors, economic and commercial chambers, civil society and the media. The hosts and large number of guests had an opportunity to discuss key issues for the development of Western Backa: land urbanization, environment protection, agriculture and financing. The Forum also provided an opportunity for networking, exchange of useful information and, in the words of Velibor Milojicic, president of the Assembly of Kula Municipality, "represented a beginning of a new development program of the county and the region in which local governments act as a true service to the economy and business.“ The participants of the Forum were greeted at the beginning by: Velibor Milojicic, president of the Assembly of Kula Municipality, Nebojsa Janjic, Assistant Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning, Branislav Bugarski, director of the Vojvodina Investment Promotion Fund, Milan Jankovic, President of Serbian Association of SME and President of Belgrade Chamber of Commerce. The networking and business opportunities of the Backa Forum also attracted: representatives of the Croatian Embassy, the Embassy of Montenegro, the representative of Republika Srpska, Rene Kanajama - chairman of the Council of Japanese investors, the director of the Croatian Employers Association, representatives of different chambers and many others.
